The artworld is changing. Art has always been a driving force in community enrichment, creating social awareness, and enhancing the juxtaposition of our society and the artist’s canvas. Today, the artworks have grown in scale and complexity to intrigue new audiences and revive the collective appreciation of art in general. These folks don’t just create, they inspire. We call these folks The Art Influencers.

The Manifest Justice exhibit opened on May 1st in the Baldwin Hills section of Los Angeles. Over 150 artists exhibited powerful pieces in relation to social justice in America. The creativity in the exhibit was overwhelming. With paintings, sculptures, and installations, viewers became encompassed in the everyday reality of justice and how it affects citizens. We got to speak with Jordan Weber about his Phase 2 installation and he explains how it adds to the overall theme of the exhibition.

Steve Grody has been documenting L.A. graffiti since 1990. He is an author and art journalist that focuses on the history of the LA graffiti scene. For over 20 years he has seen and covered many of the changes in the way writers tell their story through paint. He decided to share his finding via a book and website titled graffiti LA, to keep graffiti lovers up to date about who’s getting up.

Dwell on Design LA, curated by the editors of Dwell magazine, is America’s Largest Design Event. Attended by over 30,000 people, this 3-day modern home show exhibits cutting-edge modern products from design industry leaders and interacts with thousands of experts in the field of design and beyond. In episode three, we got the chance to speak with Hideout OTG Developer Richard Springwater to discuss modern design as an asset to a simple lifestyle.

The Skid Row as we know it is receiving a facelift. Thanks to community members, activists, and artists, Skid Row is becoming a place that symbolizes triumph, togetherness, and pride in its arts. General Jeff has been a major pioneer in the Skid Row Super Mural Project which gathered artists from across the country to contribute to beautifying the neighborhood. For the 4th installation, he partnered with Philadelphia Based Muralist Alloyius McIlwaine to increase the positive energy in the community.

Badir McCleary is an independent consultant. He holds a M.A. in Arts Business from Sotheby’s Institute of Art (Los Angeles/London) where he focused on creating art markets and with an undergraduate degree in Internet Computing from Cabrini University focusing on e-commerce and digital trends. Badir enjoys working with artists and consider them crucial to informing his practice.
