The Artist Profile: John Fitzpatrick of New Hope Cellar Door. ArtAboveReality’s new online series of artist sit-downs titled “The Artist Profile” allows viewers to have a relaxed look at the living artist in their environment.
“One day my grandmother asked me to STOP drawing stick figures on ladders dropping bombs on other unexpected stick man bystanders and the monsters with vicious muscles challenging the viewer with their unrelenting discretion. Mom-mom suggested that i draw from life, for my images where a tad aggressive for such a young man and could be used for a much bigger picture. So, i asked her what i should draw, she pointed to a portrait of an owl on her wall and this was the moment drawing became a tool to indulge calmly into my imagination, the purpose to DRAW from life. The pursuit has been vigorously steadied since my moment with mom-mom, for she shared with me her ineffable veracity.
Throughout my conscience public school education i used drawing as a way to record the moments i was experiencing, or so that is what i thought. Plagued with the inability to understand how i would apply my designedly forced knowledge, the pen found its way to integrate into every moment of my life. Getting all the way through and out the other side with a bachelors in media arts and animation showed me the importance of immersing yourself selflessly for the importance of tangible expression. Once i had a universally deliberate intention for a foundation and the established brand identity as an artist, the first book came to an end and the next book revealed itself.
I still struggle with the aspect of survival as an artist and the accomplishments of sharing a perceived value attached to moments of focused meditation, but making it thus far the viewer has expressed an aligned purpose in agreement to the task at hand.
While on this quest of questions, with a chance for answers, i invite all to join their culture with eyes of compassionate unknowing, a voice of reasonable awareness, and the love that creates all that we are being, doing, and having. This may not be a clear biography, but the desire to learn will reveal the path in which you imagine in front of me.” – John Fitzpatrick
